I Can't Believe It Worked!

Again, a post from my private blog that I thought would be more relevant in this one :) Enjoy!

So, my last post was all about my dream of finding the perfect room for rent in AltaDena/Pasadena no more than 5-10 miles from the school I will be working at. After posting that blog, I began my search of  finding the "perfect" room. Well... It turns out this room didn't exist, at least not on the internet where I was searching for it. After searching for about a week, and talking to friends who confirmed that I will most likely not find what I am looking for at the price that I have in mind, I kind of set the idea aside and forgot all about it.

This morning when I was walking to my classroom with another teacher, she was asking me questions about my commute, and how it is affecting my sleep schedule. I told her exactly how my Monday-Friday life is like:

3:45: Wake up, get ready, eat breakfast
5:30-5:45: Leave for school
* I give myself an hour and a half to get to school on time. Depending on the traffic, if I get to school before 7:00, I will stop at Starbucks to read and maybe have some tea or coffee.
7:15: Arrive at school
3:00: School ends
*I try to leave school by 4:30 to beat traffic, but that doesn't always happen...
6:00-7:00: arrive home
7:45: go to bed, to try and get 8 hours of sleep.

Obviously this is not an ideal situation to be in. I have almost NO time for myself. Well, as luck would have it... This teacher just happens to live 2 miles from the school, has 2 extra rooms available, and is offering me one of them to make my life a little less stressful. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!! I am in utter shock! I had to ask her to repeat what she was saying, because I was sure I heard her wrong. Nope, i heard her correctly, and after talking more with her I found out that what she was offering me was very close to what I had written about in my previous post:

IDEALLY what I would like to find in a place to rent, is someone's back house. Not a back house...The school that I will be working at is located on Allan street. It would be a dream come true to find a back house for rent located on this street. It is a pretty steep grade of hill, and every time I am driving to Aveson, I imagine myself running up this hill before school in the morning! She lives one street over from Allan, so I could totally run up the hill!!!!Cost... this is an important aspect of what I want. Since if I stayed at my parents house I would be spending approximately $400 a month in gas, I decided I do not want to spend more than $600 a month on a place to rent. I got the impression that she was not going to charge me rent... I'm uncomfortable taking advantage like that so I am going to insist I pay something, but I'm thinking it won't be more than $500 :)I would like to find an older woman who lives alone and is renting out some space because the place she lives is just to darn big for her all all by herself. She is an older lady... married, but their place does seem like it's probably too big for just the two of them!  I already stated that I would prefer a back house, so that I could feel like I have my own space, but my second choice would be maybe like a portion of a house?  Not a back house, but it sounds like I will have plenty of space and privacy.I definitely want my own bathroom. I will have my own bathroom, AND my own entrance into the house, something I didn't even think of :)and it would be great to feel comfortable enough to cook in the kitchen. The woman that I move in with will be a big fan of tea, and we will have great conversations together (maybe she's even a retired teacher). We haven'y discussed the kitchen thing, and I'm not sure how she feels about tea, but she is currently a teacher so I'm positive we will have great conversations together!I don't have a lot of things to furnish a space with, so if I do end up finding a back house, it would be awesome if it was furnished, or at least the living space was furnished, I could bring my room with me. It will be fully furnished :) And Bellatrix........... ideally this woman will also have a dog, and I will be able to bring Bella with me.... And the woman can't walk her dog too often, so I will walk him :) She might even give me a break on my rent for my services! This is the part that will take some compromise. I will not be able to take Bellatrix with me. Although this family does have a dog, I feel that I would really be overstepping my boundaries if I was to bring her. It will be a HUGE sacrifice for me to only see Bellatrix on the weekends.

We have not worked out all of the details yet. What we have worked out is that I will be staying there next week to get a feel for things, and we can talk more about all the logistics at that time. I am still in shock that all of this is sort of happening exactly the way I planned, I guess my Grandma was right about putting what I wanted out into the world!

You can definitely expect a full update on this matter very soon!!! It is now 8:57 pm, an hour and 12 minutes past my bedtime.... YIKES.... goodnight!!!
